The FDNY Special Operations Command Task Force (SOC-TF) conducted a full scale exercise last week, which simulated a terrorist event in a dual tunnel used for vehicles and trains, and an explosion on a commercial passenger ship. When fully activated and deployed, the SOC Task Force is modeled after an 80 member FEMA Type I Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. “Our units arrived in under four minutes. Upon arrival, we had very heavy fire conditions. Our units moved in aggressively and deliberately with multiple hand lines. Due to the amount of fire, we had to pull all our members out of the building and we went to exterior streams. We are operating with six large caliber streams and we're hitting pockets of fire.
