Cold composting and hot composting both turn organic waste into soil-building compost, but they work very differently. Cold composting is a slow, low-effort process where kitchen scraps and garden waste are added over time as they become available. The pile gradually breaks down through natural microbial activity, often taking many months. While slower, it still produces usable compost — especially at the base, where older material has had time to fully decompose and can be harvested once ready.
