Easiest Braised Red Cabbage 1 head red cabbage, finely sliced Juice of 1 medium orange 2 tbsp brown sugar 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 cinnamon stick 1 sprig thyme Drizzle of Olive oil Salt, to taste 30-40ml water. Cook over a medium heat Cover and braise gently for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add small splashes of water as needed to keep the cabbage soft and glossy. Slow Cooker Red Cabbage Red Cabbage is one of my favourite side dishes to serve up on Christmas Day. It’s vibrant, hearty and absolutely perfect for this time of year. The only issue with cooking it is space. When you already have so much cooking on the hob and in the oven you may run out of space for any more dishes. Meliz Cooks Braised Red Cabbage. We never used to have braised red cabbage at Christmas growing up, but since I first made it around 15 years ago, it’s been such a favourite on the dinner table and a really popular recipe on here too.
